Give one piece of advice that you would give to a new children’s magician just starting out in the business.
First of all, make sure that you love ALL children. Just don’t think that after the 1st couple of shows that you perform, that you’re a professional. It takes years of hard work, education and dedication to become a TRUE CHILDREN’S PERFORMER. That’s why there’s no stopping Mr. Bob after 26 + years. I love what I do!!
How did you decide to get in your line of work?
Back in 1989, I performed my very 1st magic show for my daughter’s 5th birthday party. I was nervous, but pulled it off and the rest is history.
What do you like most about your job?
I’ve always loved magic and entertaining children. There are always children in my neighborhood, nieces, nephews and grand children that I could try my new magic on. If I get a thumbs-up from the kids, I’ll incorporate the new magic tricks in my show.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
When shopping around for other entertainers, be sure to browse their website, photos and most importantly, have a phone conversation with that person before deciding on entertainment. You should be confident that he or she is the best person to be your party entertainer. Nowadays, Moms and Dads want more for their money. There are already many expenses, such as food, drinks, cake, ice cream and decorations- you want to make sure that your entertainment is successful as well! MR. BOB TO THE RESCUE!
Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
Always attending workshops, conferences, conventions and classes to keep up with all aspects of my entertainment business.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you and what is your answer?
The price and it’s understandable. First I tell them what I have to offer, than I give them my fees. They are surprised to hear that I offer many fun activities, birthday goodies to the child of honor and FREE give-aways to the children at the party.
Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
Thanks to my love of children and my dedication to the art of magic, I have managed to become the most sought-after birthday party entertainer in the Chicagoland area! Parents book me several weeks and even months in advance. That’s how busy I am. I have gone to parties where children actually greet me by my name, thanks to previous party visits!
If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
The clients would love the secret to my magic tricks and NO, I don’t give away ANY secrets. :0)
